This project arose from a competition of the municipality of Krimpen aan den IJssel, in which this proposal was selected. The challenge was to realize a sustainable monument to commemorate 75 years of freedom. A functional clockwork had to be integrated into this, because this was a wish of the inhabitants.
These two fairly contrasting design questions have been translated into the concept 'Freedom knows no time'. In this message lies the idea that we can occasionally slow down in our hectic existence, take a moment to reflect on what we all have and to whom we owe it.
The work consists of a Corten steel construction and a green copper cladding. Like a crown on top, three floating figures stand out, an abstraction referring to the war machines, birds of freedom and the coat of arms of Krimpen aan den IJssel.
